I am grateful for the support that Royal Palm Beach High School received throughout the conversation surrounding a potential charter high school in our village and I am very proud of our school community and how it came together in such a critical moment. I maintain that this matter was not a referendum on Charter Schools but rather on what was best for this community and its high school. Consequently, it was important to point out the many choices that Royal Palm Beach High School and the school district offer students and the willingness of the district to work with the Council and our community to help further Royal Palm Beach High School’s vision. More so, it was important that we remind everyone that in the last 5 years Royal Palm Beach High School has become an unquestionable part of the fabric of this community, truly a beacon for the Village of Royal Palm Beach.
We have never taken the responsibility of being this community’s high school lightly and we are committed, now more than ever, to our ongoing quest of providing our students with the best possible education. We are equally committed to reaching out to all of our community members to ensure that they know the many options and educational possibilities available at Royal Palm Beach High School and to continue working to earn the trust of this entire community.
The Class of 2015 Commencement Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 18th at 7:30PM.
For only the third time in the 16 school years that the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has been assigning school grades, Royal Palm Beach High School has earned a B grade. Principal Jesus Armas says that “what pleases me most about this grade is that it was achieved the right way and built to last. We have been patient in furthering our vision by establishing a strong infrastructure, providing the proper professional development for our staff, and creating a culture of respect and excellence on our campus.”
Mr. Armas is also quick to point out that this is a real team effort. “Our success is due to hard work and dedication on the part of many individuals. We are fortunate to have strong leadership at the District level from Superintendent Gent and Board Member Marcia Andrews. We are grateful for the support that we received from Area Superintendent Ian Saltzman and Area Director Joe DePasquale, from the Royal Palm Beach Council and Education Advisory Board, and from our parents and community members. We are proud of the work done by our leadership team, our instructional support team, and our non-instructional staff. We are however, most proud of our classroom teachers and students who are on the front line of where the learning truly occurs.”
Mr. Armas also has high expectations for the future of RPBHS. “Last year the FDOE upped the threshold numbers to earn letter grades making it more difficult to earn an A. Under the old point system our 1097 points would have been an A. Now for this school year there will be even more changes to school grading because of the different tests and a different scoring method. So, while we don't know how grades will be affected this year or in the future, we do know that the work that we are currently doing is real and exceptional and that it's being done by a group of highly dedicated professionals and an outstanding student body, making the future for RPBHS very, very bright.”
